Self-Confidence

Here are a few basics you should already be aware of and practicing if you’re building self-confidence.

  1. Add exercise back into your weekly routine.
  2. Do not overwork yourself in the hours prior to an important event.
  3. Pace yourself, so that you still have energy left for important things like self, family, and friends.
  4. Recall your purpose and passions.

You’re at a crossroads. You have options to choose from but you know that whatever you choose, it will be a struggle. Don’t focus on the negativity of your situation. Make a decision to go after personal fulfillment. Make a decision, take some action, even if it’s just a little. Even a little action will create momentum for you, and that will lead to feeling more confident.

Self-Confidence Building. What is self-confidence? How do you get it? Everyone needs it. One thing is certain. You know it when you feel it, so feel confident when you can. Remember a previous moment when you felt confident and let yourself experience those feelings again. Although accomplishing your goals is the most direct way to build your confidence, there are various methods. For instance, you can practice meditation or mindfulness. You have personal strengths and preferences, so choose wisely. My personal thoughts.

According to Mike Bundrant,

Here are the 5 essential elements of natural self-confidence:
  • Know your limits.
  • Know your values.
  • Get skills.
  • See others as people.
  • Act!

Try this essential activity: According to Tom Hoobyar, et al, feeling more confident seems to be a universal desire. But, feeling confident is NOT based on truth. It is based on choice.

Consciously and conscientiously rehearse your triumphs. Start keeping score so you can remember your victories and the many little ways you’ve improved. Write them down – little victories and big ones.

Take as much time as it takes (hours, days, weeks, or years) to create a list of about thirty things that you’ve done that make you feel good about yourself. During periods when you’re going through a downtime in life, be very deliberate about reading your victory list every morning. This will help you to remember that you’ve done a number of things right in your life.

Again, the list doesn’t have to be “great achievements” just things you’ve done that make you feel good about yourself. You can note times when you were creative, generous, diligent or tolerant, brave, courageous, or determined –  whatever reflects your value system and gives you a reason to be proud of yourself. Deliberately create and reflect on this list. You won’t be disappointed.
