“What a man can be, he must be. This need we call self-actualization.” — Abraham Maslow
Essential Mental Health
We have reached an era in which “mental health” has become essential in business. This is both good and bad. Obviously, it’s good because too many have suffered for too long under the tyrannical manager. Too often, we have shared the experience of working in a toxic work environment and remained because the job provided us with financial opportunity.
Yet oddly enough we must say that the era of “essential mental health” is bad when many of today’s leaders, those who would model a desirable state of “mental health” are uncertain as to how to comply. We have ideas for you.
The pandemic combined with our declining economy has many of us stressed out, anxious, or worried about our careers. Rather than worry, we must take action to better prepare ourselves. Adapt rather than resist. “Skill up” when you feel your job security is being threatened. EQ counseling, performance coaching, and leadership coaching are all available to you.
“We will do it not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our skills and talents.” – President John F. Kennedy referencing the original moon shot.
A Business Psychologist aims to help organizations and their employees achieve top performance and job satisfaction, most effectively through one-to-one coaching, most efficiently through a group coaching session. Call us to arrange a coaching professional for yourself – of course – but know that your first step will be to begin to see through the eyes of a superior performer. You’ll have to redefine that image to include “mental health.”
I can place all client reactions to coaching on a continuum, ranging between two extremes. Although, 95% of reactions land well up on the positive side. On the positive side, people most often express something like . . .
“I’ve never considered this information before. But now that I have started implementing coaching recommendations, I’m experiencing a profound impact. I mean, in both my personal and professional life.” That’s professional development.
On the other end . . .
“This has been interesting and very enlightening. I have the assessments, and we’ve discussed them in sufficient detail, for now. I can refer to them as I deem necessary. I’ll contact you again. Thank you.”
Awareness & Responsible Practice
End results are always determined by each individual. It is up to each one of us to implement and practice what we learn. Tie together or create a connection between fresh, new self-knowledge, and our day-to-day experience. Otherwise, it is only an academic exercise.
Begin with a vision or “big picture.” Next, start filling in the details. No detail is too small. Professional development encompasses many fascinating areas of interest, such as:
