Psychological Coaching Protocols

The role of an executive coach is similar to that of a psychologist. As an executive coach, I provide listening, support, and encouragement, as I do as a psychologist. Yet as a coach, I also assess and explicitly focus your attention on your strengths – the attributes that give you the “presence” and “charisma” to be an influential leader. A series of psychological assessments effectively assist you in exploring and developing a new, gentler, more vigorous, kinder, more empathic, and hopefully wiser identity.

With the support of your executive coach, you’ll blend facts and logic with intuition and emotion. You will become more keenly aware and in control of your weaknesses, allowing your strengths to vibrate and present themselves. We call this “executive presence.” In essence, you’re improving and developing your skills and strategy to lead effectively.

6 Advanced Coaching Protocols to Improve Your Impact

Each model or protocol begins with exploration to develop an acute awareness and articulation of your current situation. Whether you fully realize it or not, how you conceptualize yourself, your situation, and how you feel about it directly influences your outcome. We aim to refine and improve your described state as a team of two.

Having identified your current and desired state, you will be given access to multiple valid and reliable assessments that can highlight your strengths and assist you in stretching yourself. Newly recognized strengths, skills, and strategies generate a new awareness that redefines the context in which you live and work. You’ll now have the opportunity to practice in real-world situations and to “internalize” your sense of how it feels to be functioning more effectively.

The more you practice these potently practical skills, the more comfortable and skillful you will become in utilizing them. The choice is yours to make. Sign up for a complete program, combine two or more, or take one level at a time.

1. Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence is often defined as the ability to perceive, use, understand, manage, and handle emotions. People with high emotional intelligence recognize their own emotions and those of others, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately and adjust emotions to adapt to environments.

A brilliant brain and a high IQ are useless if we do not understand empathy. If we don’t know how to read our own emotions (and other people’s emotions), if we are strangers to our hearts and lack social awareness, that allows us to connect, manage fear, and be assertive. Whether we like it or not, emotional intelligence is the key to happiness. Daniel Goleman

5. Leadership Legends “click here for details”

Performance depends on the ability to pay attention and concentrate on the right things at the correct times, and pressure changes how we focus, make decisions, and interact with others. Remember, you’re likely compelled to feel pressure at home and work.

“Master mental skills to improve your performance.”

Robert M. Nideffer, PhD

“Vision is the art of seeing what is invisible to others.” When you want to direct or improve your performance, you must first correctly identify the problem’s origin and be part of the origin. Vision, direction, and purpose are essential for leaders to take their team beyond the goal of merely completing a specific project.

Choosing which course of action to take can become a significant source of anxiety for some of us; plus, you will flounder without a clear and accurate target. I have an assessment tool to help you develop a vision and purpose for YOUR big picture, the focus of level 2 coaching.

We maintain that controlling attention and shifting concentration from an external to an internal focus is essential to the correction process. Outcomes are external, but our processes are internal. To achieve your full potential, you must develop faith in your ability to accept responsibility and solve problems and the procedures you intend to use. “You must develop methods for predicting concentration in the face of doubt and commit to following through despite the doubts.” Robert Nideffer, Ph.D.

To reiterate, diagnosing is the first step in improving concentration and committing to a coaching program. As you determine the nature of your problem, your feelings of confusion decrease as you gain a sense of direction and structure, making it easier to think and concentrate.

Finally, as in the high-performance program, we will discuss the concept of “flow,” “peak performance,” and “getting on a roll.” Getting into a high-performance zone is a cognitive, emotional, and physical state. For some, it will become meaningful to access a calm state for others you lead, and for others, to emote more feeling, and learn the language of emotions; complete the program = all four levels (24 sessions + 4 assessments).

Pro Tip: The valuable concept of centering comes from martial arts and refers to a process used to create feelings of being grounded, calm, relaxed, receptive, and clear in thought. Get centered and “get on a roll.”

Research shows that understanding and applying your strengths can help:

Your Leadership Skills

Leadership is a journey – But it has two parts: convincing people to join and getting them to the destination. Only the first stage is leadership. The second phase is a management undertaking. “Leaders sell the tickets for the journey; managers drive the bus to the destination.” – Mitch McCrimmon

Credibility is the foundation of leading – We usually lose when we buy the ideas of eccentrics we would not trust to manage anything. Even in 2022, excellent content can sway us, although the promoter (leader) is not personally credible. Character is required for people in executive positions.

Leadership is a relationship – Managers work closely with people to get things done. Because they have power over people, there must be a relationship of trust between them.

You must be inspiring to lead, even though the leadership style is situational. There is no shortage of science or evidence supporting decisions these days, any direction, any decision. Scientific studies tend to show that we make our decisions “emotionally,” and nano-seconds later, we search for “evidence-based” decision-making.

You probably know academically brilliant people who are socially inept and unsuccessful at work or in their relationships. This should be obvious, but it’s not the loudest, most aggressive people who will be successful either. They are more likely to be the reasons organizations lose good people. Soft skills are not to be taken lightly. Know which ones you’re best at and capitalize on them.

Learn easy-to-grasp concepts that, as a leader, you can follow daily to build positive relationships and achieve the extraordinary. Leaders shape the future. They set the tone. They create a unified vision and follow through on execution. They do this through extraordinary measures of self-control.

Leaders drive results and achieve goals. To face the obstacles of today and tomorrow, we need leaders at every level.
